Think "Inside" the Box !

We were thinking ‘inside’ the box for World Book Day 2015

    St.Francis School :: World Book Day 2015

In a change from the norm of dressing up as book characters we decorated the inside of a shoebox with scenes from our favourite books. Examples included Jack and the Beanstalk, Charlottes Web, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,Tracy Beaker, Rapunzel, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Gruffalo.

We built up to the event by meeting celebrated author Adrian Townsend, whose works include Gran’s Gang and Teacher’s Tales, who read to us and took us on a journey of discovery in putting a story together.  Each class also visited the Durning Library in Ascot where we were shown the many services offered there.

A follow up visit by poet James Carter will be made later this month to build on the children’s enthusiasm and encourage their poetry creation.

Mrs Hilary Prendergast, Deputy Head and Literacy Co-ordinator said that the boxes which the children designed had allowed them to express the way the characters in their favourite books appealed to them. “ We asked the staff to select the most creative in each class and they found this extremely difficult due to the very high standard of work,” she said.
